“Exceptional” academic talent was honoured at Barking town hall.

Borough mayor Eileen Keller joined more than 150 people for the Bright Academy Awards, where Joshua Illelaboye, 18, talked about achieving four A*s at A level.

Pastor Gbolahan Ayorinde Bright, who runs the maths academy, said the event on Friday last week showed the importance of working hard.

“Joshua gave a speech to encourage people and let them know what it takes,” he said. “It was a really good event.”
