A collection of students hoping to launch their careers managed to wow a host of major employers this week, some even landing themselves real-life interviews.

Barking and Dagenham College welcomed a number of industry experts to offer advice and one-to-one training in interview skills as part of a workshop day.

Construction training specialist Joe Brenan, a director at Debre Limited, was so impressed he now hopes to offer an apprenticeship place to one lucky student.

He said: “The workshops are a great way for students to meet local employers, hear from these industry leaders about what businesses are looking for in future employees and practice their interviewing techniques.”

Among others the day featured representatives from the likes of Metro Bank, the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham and Costain Skanska JV – currently involved in the £15 billion Crossrail project.

Plumbing and building services student Reece Knight, 17, now hopes to utilize the day by bagging himself the much-coveted apprentice spot.

He explained: “It’s given me a lot of experience and I picked up some useful tips on what employers are looking for.”
