Two students at Barking and Dagenham College were named among the best in their borough last night.
The annual Alternative Provision Awards, which are for Havering, saw 15-year-old Fathiya Mohamed named the most improved student in the borough, while 16-year-old Cynthia Adebayo, who is the college’s head girl, was named the best student and received the Overall Award Winner.
The awards are to celebrate the efforts and achievements of those studying practical courses or in alternative education.
Cynthia is also the student ambassador for Barking and Dagenham College, which involves helping to get new students to join the college. She is predicted to get straight A*s in her GCSEs this summer.
Paul Sim, the head of college’s 14 to 16 department, said: “Sometimes you see shining stars like these two young people and they are what makes what we do worthwhile.”
