Pupils are getting first hand experience of the creative arts world, thanks to a partnership between Barking and Dagenham Council and educational charity Bow Arts.
The partnership, beginning in April, will inspire pupils using visits to galleries, creative workspaces and artist studios, along with an annual curated exhibition of their own work.
The programme, which lasts three years and involves eight schools, will be taught by practising artists.
Councillor and cabinet member for school and education, Evelyn Carpenter, said: “We are proud of the strong tradition of cultural participation across the borough. Culture helps our economy by creating jobs, providing learning opportunities for all ages, breaking down barriers, helping our communities thrive and supporting our young people to realise their potential.”
Becontree, Five Elms, Gascoigne, Grafton, Henry Green, Southwood, Valence and William Bellamy primary schools will take part.
