A student entrepreneur from Dagenham has won £5,000 in funding for her online clothing business.
Dr Muna Aziz, 22, won the Best Business prize at the University of Hertfordshire’s annual start-up awards, Flare.
She won the prize for her website Mel Janac, which sells tailored formal wear, and accepted it in front of 250 people at the University’s Weston Auditorium on Thursday.
“Social media has definitely been a powerful tool in my business,” said Muna. “Through social media, I’ve built a customer base with clients who are from different countries.”
More than 1,200 students and graduates entered the competition, now in its twelfth year, with £190,000 awarded to young businessmen and women.
Pro Vice-Chancellor Julie Newlan said: “It has been a great honour to meet so many inspiring, innovative young entrepreneurs as part of this process.”
