Kind-hearted pupils have collected more than 150 gift-filled shoeboxes for a popular Christmas appeal.

The Jo Richardson students “surpassed all expectations” making their best ever contribution to Operation Christmas Child, which saw one million boxes sent to poverty-stricken countries last year.

Pupil Ghaya Rashid, 15, said: “We want to say a huge thank you to all the students, staff, parents, carers and others who have helped make our shoebox appeal the biggest and best ever.”

The appeal run in conjunction with the Samaritan’s Purse charity will see the 159 shoeboxes sent to Third World countries like Swaziland in Africa.

A spokesman at the school in Gale Street, Dagenham, said: “Students at Jo Richardson Community School have once again surpassed all expectations in their annual Operation Christmas Child shoebox appeal.”
