Barking and Dagenham College will compete in a high tech challenge for next year’s Sports Relief.

Technology students at the further education centre in Dagenham Road, Dagenham, are among the 800 tasked with engaging young people with the charity event.

They will use digital tools such as social media and online video to secure the future support of 16-24 year olds.

After three “solutions” are selected, only 60 students will make it through to bring the ideas to life.

The project, which launches in January and is run by Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Comic Relief, will be managed and run just like a proper business.

Students will consider costs like labour, materials and more in their project plans.

After eight weeks, the groups will present their plans to representatives from organisers AWS, Comic Relief and the Career Colleges Trust, a vocational training group which includes Barking and Dagenham College.

The three winning projects will be awarded prizes.
