They might have been a week late, but teachers and pupils at Easbury Primary School enjoyed an exciting St George’s Day parade on Wednesday, celebrating the story of England’s patron saint.
Pupils made the most of the opportunity to ditch their uniforms for a day, dressing up as dragons, princesses and knights.
Although the rain confined the parade to the school hall, spirits remained high as children showed off their costumes to proud parents and staff with a patriotic soundtrack of Chariots of Fire and the Spice Girls – all taken from the 2012 Olympic opening ceremony.
After a series of assemblies explaining about the dragon-slaying hero, the youngsters enjoyed some specially-crafted “healthy” cookies, each one featuring the famous red cross.
A cake sale also raised just under £300 for the school’s library.
Deputy headteacher Sarah Goosani said: “The parade was amazing and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day.
“We’re proud to be a diverse school that celebrates identity and other cultures.
“We like to mark special celebration days, and this event was about the English patron Saint and celebrating Britishness.
