A 14-year-old fencer from Dagenham has been selected to compete in the Junior Commonwealth Games.

Olympic 2024 hopeful Alice Campbell, who is currently ranked as number two in the GB U17 Women’s foil rankings, will head to Cape Town to take part in the competition in July.

“It was a real surprise for me, I’m really happy that I get the chance to go,” the shocked teenager, of Rosedale Road, said.

“It’s a once in a life time experience but I do not really know too much what to expect.”

The England Under 15 international trains with the Newham Swords fencing club at the University of East London and competes regularly for club and country. She took up the sport six years ago.
