Pupils at a Barking primary school are hoping handmade posters will prevent fly-tipping near their gates.

Broken electrical goods, old furniture and refuse sacks have been dumped outside the main entrance to Ripple Primary School’s Westbury site since Easter.

The school council even put up anti-littering signs made from felt tip pens, coloured pencils and paper. But the bin bags kept coming.

“No child should have to regularly walk past piles of rubbish as they enter their school,” said headteacher Roger Mitchell.

Staff at the Ripple Road, Barking primary had to clear away the rubbish each time, despite a parent governor contacting Barking and Dagenham Council about the issue in July, he added.

A council spokesman said they had received “no complaints from the school” but were happy to work with teachers to address concerns.

Fixed penalty notices had been issued for fly-tipping in the area, he added.
