Parents and carers of children at a primary school rocked by scandal are invited to discuss its progress since the Department for Education stepped in.

Matthew Miller, chairman of the Interim Executive Board (IEB) appointed by education secretary Michael Gove following a string of serious allegations against the school, will hold a “surgery” for parents and carers on Wednesday, July 10.

Experienced

Mr Miller said the school, in Dawson Avenue, Barking, would be looking to recruit “experienced teachers” in the weeks ahead.

He added that headteacher Carole Thomas, who was the subject of a parents’ petition calling for her resignation and is set to be replaced by Leigh Hovey in September, had made an “immense effort” in improving Eastbury for which the IEB was “extremely grateful”.

“There is no denying that school has been in a difficult place of late, but my colleagues on the IEB are working very hard with the Department for Education and Local Authority to make sure that we make the most of the exciting opportunities which lie ahead.”
