Barking and Dagenham Council’s cabinet member for education has visited a Barking school’s new £21 million facilities.
Cllr Evelyn Carpenter went to Barking Abbey School to see how they are expanding teaching space, buying specialist equipment for DT, art, science and IT, building a new dining hall and improving their sports facilities by building a new sports hall.
The work, which has been overseen by the council’s regeneration company Be First, will enable an extra 90 pupils be admitted to the school each year.
After visiting the school, Cllr Carpenter said: “The first new building is really taking shape and already looking great. Over the past four years we have ploughed £110 million into expanding schools so we can keep pace with our increasing school age population.”
The school’s headteacher, Jo Tupman, said: “Our new buildings and facilities will further enhance and enrich our students’ learning experiences.”
