Pupils from two secondary schools organised their own summit to mark world mental health day.

Youngsters from Jo Richardson Community School, in Dagenham, and Eastbury Community School, in Barking, co-produced last week’s young people’s wellbeing summit.

The event, which was attended by around 120 pupils from schools across the borough, centred around mental health in young people.

There were also two adult workshops for staff to talk about their own wellbeing as well as gangs and street culture in schools.

Ges Smith, headteacher at Jo Richardson, said: “This event brought together students, staff and support services from across the whole borough enabling them to spend time looking at the very important issue of young people’s mental wellbeing.

“One of the things that I am most proud about is the effort and commitment the students themselves have put in to making this event such a success.”
