PUBLISHED: 11:07 30 July 2013 | UPDATED: 11:07 30 July 2013

Lovers of the great outdoors are being invited to get involved in a scheme aimed at celebrating the environment.

The John Muir Award is being launched on August 7 at Beam Parklands in Dagenham.

Named after Scottish naturalist and pioneering ecologist John Muir, it is aimed at encouraging people to enjoy the outdoors and help preserve green spaces for future generations.

Organisers say the award will help broaden people’s understanding of environmental issues, as well as looking great on participants’ CVs.

Anyone wishing to get involved can meet rangers at Beam Parklands from 10.30am-2pm on August 7.

There are no age conditions, and families as well as individuals are welcome. For more information, call 0208 227 2332.
