College students gave up their bank holiday to help clear the lake in Mayesbrook Park.

Shopping trolleys, old car tyres and discarded bottles were removed from the water on Bank Holiday Monday.

There were 14 volunteers helping to clear the lake, 13 of which were Barking and Dagenham College students.

The volunteers litter picked the banks of both the park’s lakes, clearing 13 bags of rubbish.

Ruth Taylor, community ranger for Barking and Dagenham Council, said: “The English for speakers of other languages teacher from Barking and Dagenham College was very proud of her students and their contribution in helping their local environment.

“I want to say a big thank you from the Ranger Service for all the help which has made a significant difference to Mayesbrook Park in just a couple of hours.”

Residents and students are being asked to help with another clean-up in Dagenham’s Padnall Lake on May 14. Head to the lake at 12:30pm to help with the clear-up.
