A FORMER Archbishop of Canterbury, who grew up in the borough, fears Dagenham voters will turn to the extreme right if the government doesn't cut immigration numbers.
Lord George Carey said there was a real danger Dagenham's white-working class, "alienated by far-reaching social change", could vote for a BNP Member of Parliament.
He added: "This would be a tragedy in our long history of parliamentary democracy. "Yet we play into the hands of the far right if we do not seriously address the concerns that have led to some otherwise decent people supporting modern-day fascism."
