‘Explosion’ under Broadway Theatre in Barking tapes off town centre road

An “explosion” under the theatre this morning is reported to have been caused by an electrical fault.
Clockhouse Avenue in Barking remains closed off as firefighters investigate an explosion that occurred at 4.15am.
Firefighters were initially called to Barking Town Hall to reports of an explosion, before being diverted to the other end of Clockhouse Avenue in the town centre to reports of smoke near the theatre in Broadway.
Two fire engines and one command vehicle attended the incident.
There is currently no power in the town hall or the Broadway.
