A jeweller in Dagenham has been fined for a second time for failing to provide information about how waste is disposed of.
Nsubidi Batuba, owner Friends of Art & Silversmith Ltd in Lodge Avenue, was ordered to pay £1,761 at Barkingside Magistrates Court.
Council officers visited his shop in June 2017 to see copies of the waste transfer notes for the previous year.
When they asked to see the notes, Batuba produced a small bag of waste, “but when the officer made a further inspection, Batuba tried to hide the contents of the bag”, according to a council spokesman.
It later emerged that Batuba had previously been ordered to pay £1,433 for failing to provide waste transfer notes.
Batuba did not attend the hearing and the court ruled in Barking and Dagenham Council’s favour in his absence.
Businesses are required to keep waste transfer notes for a period of up to two years.
