Fire at care home forces elderly residents to flee

A FIRE caused elderly residents to flee their homes in the middle of a cold night last Friday.

Ten residents at Fews Lodge Care Home, in Gregory Road, Marks Gate, had already left the building when the fire brigade arrived at around 12.20pm last Friday night (March 1).

Firefighters found a burning cupboard on the first floor.

A spokesperson for the fire brigade said nobody had been hurt and the blaze was put out in 20 minutes.

The cause for the fire is not known, but an investigation has been launched.
