This was the dramatic scene captured by a Post reader as fire fighters battled a blaze at a home in Barking.

The fire, which broke out at around 6.20pm on Sunday, tore through the two-storey property in Wilmington Gardens, Barking, leaving the entire roof and some of the first floor badly damaged. The second floor of an adjacent house was also affected. No-one was hurt.

Four pumps and 20 crew were called to the incident and had the blaze under control within 40 minutes.

Resident, Robin Taylor, 56, who lives nearby and took pictures of the fire, said: “I saw smoke coming from the building and called 999. I got closer and could see flames coming from the roof. Luckily no-one was in the house and no lives were lost.

“I did see someone who lives next door try to back in the house as he was worried about his house, but thank fully someone else stopped him.”

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
