Firefighters were called to two separate industiral fires at the same time in Barking yesterday morning.

While 6 engines and 35 firefighters tackled a scrap metal blaze over on Rivers Road, the Barking station fire crew also tended to an industrial bailer that had caught fire at at Shanks Recycling Centre in Jenkins Lane.

The source of the blaze was awkwardly on a conveyor belt within the bailing machine and took about two hours to fully extinguish.

Steve Benson, Crew Manager. said the room had become quite smokey when they arrived after a call was made at 9am.

Nothing suspicious had been determined as the cause of the fire.
