A gang of five teenagers accused of stabbing a man in the street will stand trial later this year.

The youngsters, who cannot be named because of their age, all appeared in court last week to deny wounding Robert Lazzam with intent to do him grievous bodily harm.

Snaresbrook Crown Court heard Mr Lazzam, who is in his mid-20s, was attacked in Longbridge Road, Barking, on June 25 last year.

A 17-year-old, of Loughton, Essex, who also denies having an offensive weapon, was remanded in custody ahead of the trial.

Three 16-year-olds, from Barking, Dagenham and Ilford, and a Barking 17-year-old, who also deny violent disorder, were bailed.

Judge Simon Wilkinson set a trial date of October 19.
