FLAGS were flying at half mast over council buildings this week as a mark of respect to courageous young soldier Martin Kinggett.
Council leader, Cllr Liam Smith, said: "The bravery of Rifleman Kinggett is inspirational. He showed enormous heroism and gave his life trying to save a comrade. On behalf of the council I would like to send our deepest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.
"There are many men and women from Barking and Dagenham involved in the conflict in Afghanistan. They all display huge courage daily and our thoughts and prayers are with them always.
