A campaign to tackle food waste and homelessness in the borough this winter has been launched.

ReFood, the UK’s leading food waste recycler, will donate funds to charity Single Homeless Project (SHP) in Dagenham for every new customer who signs up for food waste collection until the end of January.

The company, which opened a Dagenham site in July, runs Anaerobic Digestion (AD) processing plants capable of turning food waste into renewable energy and bio-fertiliser.

Robert Patterson, ReFood commercial manager for London, said: “This is a cause that we’re passionate about, and everyone in the business is able to come together and get behind.

“It’s a great opportunity for us to help those in need whilst helping businesses to dispose of their food waste in a more environmentally friendly way.”

ReFood is supporting five homeless charities with donations and contributions towards their heating bills.

Last year it raised thousands of pounds for its partnered charities.
