A 57-year-old man yesterday admitted killing an elderly Dagenham couple by driving a double-decker bus dangerously in Romford.
Robert Todd, of Redden Court Road, Harold Wood, was arrested in November last year after hitting the two men, who were in a civil partnership, with the 252 bus in Western Road.
Henry Keller and Colin Hicks, both 66, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Todd pleaded guilty to two counts of causing death by dangerous driving, at Snaresbrook Crown Court, and was previously dismissed by bus operators Stagecoach after a disciplinary investigation into the crash.
Colin and Henry, also know as Harry, lived together in sheltered accommodation in Stone Close.
Following their deaths friends paid tribute to the “lovely” couple who had a “lovely sense of humour”.
Neighbour Lynn Hamilton said: “They had a great sense of humour. You just couldn’t stop laughing when they started speaking. They bounced off each other.
“They were lovely people. I don’t think you could fault them in any way.”
Todd was bailed and will return for sentencing on October 17.
