POST OFFICE customers have deemed the situation 'hopeless' as the consultation period for possible closures approaches the half way point.

The consultation, which began on February 19 and is due to last six weeks, is in place for customers to voice their views on the closures.

When choosing which post offices will face the chop, the Post Office considered the size of the branches and the savings it could make.

What it does not seem to have taken into account is how the closures will affect the people who use the branches in the area.

The branch in Heathway, Dagenham, already faces problems due to the sheer volume of customers who use it, and people feel that the closure of Broad Street would only make matters worse.

Also under threat is the branch in Bennett's Castle Lane,Dagenham, where many elderly and disabled customers feel they will have too far to walk to an alternative post office.
