A LITTLE Christmas cheer is on its way to our brave soldiers stationed in war-torn Afghanistan.

Asda Supermarket in Dagenham has thrown its weight behind a shoebox appeal being run by the Romford Branch of the Royal Marines' Association.

The boxes are filled with essentials such as soap and razor blades, biscuits and chocolates.

Les Wright and Dave Camfield of Romford RMA went to the Merrielands Crescent store last week to collect some of the goodie boxes.

Branch chairman, Mr Wright, said: "At this festive time we will be thinking of our men and women serving their country hundreds of miles from home.

"Asda Dagenham is our biggest supporter, and their enthusiasm knows no bounds, in particularly outgoing manager Tony Lewis and his colleague Carol Gentry.
