Firefighters were called to a grass fire yesterday afternoon

About 30 firefighters rushed to Eastbrookend Country Park to quell a large grass fire yesterday.

Six fire engines responded to a call at about 2pm but still took about 90 minutes to stop the fire.

Barking firefighters joined teams from Dagenham, Hornchurch, Ilford and Harold Hill using beaters and water back packs.

But it wasn’t enough to stop the fire damaging about two hectares of undergrowth.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
