Archant

Commuters journey to work was interrupted this morning after a vehicle carrying gravel spilled its load over two lanes of a main road.

The spillage caused delays along the A13, near Lodge Avenue, Barking, for drivers travelling eastbound with two of the three lanes being closed while the gravel was cleared.

Unconfirmed reports suggest the accident followed a collision between vehicles along the busy route at around 6.30am.

Traffic tailed back to as far as Movers Lane and Beckton Roundabout while staff worked nearly three-and-a-half hours to clear the roads.

All three lanes were open again at just before 10am.
