A Jon Nurse second half goal earns Daggers a point

Assistant boss Terry Harris is happy with a point here, feeling that the first half was a slight knock-on affect from the Aldershot match - but after the break they deserved their point.

New left back Jamie Day is also pleased to put the Shots game behind him and for a full interview with the Peterborough loanee, see this weeks Post.

FULL TIME - Daggers hold on for a point here, after a second half strike from Jon Nurse. More to come in a second

Arber has given away a free kick on the edge of the box - this is a definite chance for Sweeney now. Silly from Daggers captain and the fans are in full voice.

Dreadful effort though, straight at the wall!

Three minutes of added time.

Sweeney in the book too for a foul on Nurse as he was threatening to break clear.

88MINS: Coulson drives a shot over the bar too as Daggers defending looked a bit desperate there - is there one more chance?

84MINS: Gain comes close, but his effort from the edge of the box is wide of Colgan's goal.

Neither team are holding on here, both trying to get the three points.

Last sub for Grimsby - Conlon on for Akpro.

North is causing trouble whenever he gets forward - great challenge from Arber though, he has been immense today.

Doe has come on for Antwi - obviously still not right after that tackle a few moments ago.

78MINS: Coulson just flashed a drive across goal as the Daggers defence stood and let him shoot. They dont want to be doing too much of that again.

Still no changes for the visiting Daggers as Currie puts a volley off target.

A call has just gone over the tannoy for the Dagenham & Redbridge team coach drive, where has he gone?!

Treatment needed for Antwi here, as he did very well to slide in and stop Akpro in full flight.

70MINS: Its ebbing and flowing nicely this game now as the clock ticks over to 70.

Both teams are getting forward, but as North did twice just then, the crossing has not been good today. You get the feeling there is another goal in this, but which way?

Handball from Nana there, inches outside the box and another dangerous free kick for Grimsby, from which they win a corner

Danny North has come on for the home side and his pace is causing problems already, while Featherstone has gone off for Jamie Clarke.

Crowd has come in as 3,090 with 95 from Daggers - should be in for a barnstorming finish.

Fine spell of pressure here for the visitors now as Green and Nurse are finding space on the flanks. Dangerous cross from Nurse is just flicked off the head of Benson and Daggers look a different side now.

GOALFLASH - Its 1-1 here as Nurse flicks a header over the keeper

Daggers on level terms now, and it was after a good spell of pressure that saw Nurse come close, before they won the ball back, Green swung over a fine cross and Nurse flicked his header over Colgan.

Just shows what can happen when the delivery is spot on.

That was typical of the run Benson is on, earlier in the season he would have buried that, but things just arent going for him.

Green in the book now for a poor challenge.

Daggers should be level as Benson hits the bar from four yards out. It was put on a plate by Nurse, with a superb cross from the right - for once the delivery was excellent - but Daggers top scorer continues his drought.

51MINS: Benson had the ball in the net there, but he was fouling Rob Atkinson and it was disallowed.

Jamey Barron has also been on the emails: Good afternoon! Well, not so good of late!

I wonder if it's something to do with the cold - Daggers seem to capitulate around this point of the season on a regular basis - we collapsed last season in the cold too.

Still, we've been on a good run and shown what we are capable of - my concern is all these newer loan players coming in have unsteadied the ship a little - while the likes of Miller, Currie and Ofori-Twumasi might be good in their own right, Daggers strength has always come from the team ethic. We seem to be lacking it at the moment as it's not gelling.

We need to get a win this afternoon - I don't care how - points are points!

Come on Daggers!!

Daggers do look a little more cohesive than on Tuesday, but Grimsby are not the best side in the world, whereas Aldershot were on fine form that night.

Its still a match they can get something from, but they need to improve a lot in the final third.

Another free kick for Grimsby here and its come when the defence, Antwi this time, definitely won the ball ala Miller in the first half.

Sweeney to step up again, but this time his aim if just off.

And we're underway in the second half now

Kingwilson has been back in touch

Couple of questions for you when you have a mo!

1) Is Antwi still hitting aimless long balls forward?

2) Is Danny Green being his usual ineffective self?

In answer to those, Antwi has been keeping possession on a more regular basis in the first half, looking to the wings rather than just belting it forward.

While Green hasn't had the greatest of first halves, seeing a fair bit of the ball, but not really doing anything with it.

Might be an idea putting Monty on the left, switching Currie onto the right to see if that improves the quality of delivery into the area.

One thing I would have liked to seen was a striker brought in as with Thomas suspended, Scott injured and Nwokeji on loan, there are precious little options upfront.

HALF TIME - Whistle is blown and its been a poor half for Daggers as they trail 1-0 at the break.

On the balance, Grimsby just about deserve it, but they don't look anything exceptional either, and Daggers can definitely still think about getting back into this.

44MINS: Cracking chance for Daggers there as Miller fire over from eight yards - he made the opportunity too, showing some lovely feet to break into the area.

Day and Benson then went on charging runs and have won a free kick about 35 yards from the goal.

Currie swung over a free kick there and flicked off Benson's head and wide, Daggers will do well to keep this to just one by the break.

HIT BAR Sweeney took the free kick and it was a lovely effort, that beat the wall and cannoned off the bar - could be 2-0 here, but Daggers are having to weather quite a storm now.

Miller just won the ball perfectly there but a free kick has been awarded and its slap bang in shooting range.

The corner was met by Antwi, but his header was straight at Colgan.

GOALFLASH - Grimsby ahead as Coulson is left unmarked to cut inside Green and fire into the roof of the net.

Looks like that bit of hope was extinguished fairly quickly - sloppy goal to concede there as Coulson was left unmarked, with Nana nowhere to be seen, and Green sold himself far too easily.

Daggers need to hit back here, and they have a corner to do so.

Bit if humour there as Roberts launches the ball into the housing estate and onto the roof.

Kingwilson has been in touch: Sounds like a pretty awful performance so far. Give me a ray of hope!!!!!

Good to hear from you King, although it isnt the best game to watch at the moment, its one of those ones that if Daggers can keep them quiet for the first hour, and then nick a goal, they could easily win.

Hopefully that is hopeful enough!

Another dreadful free kick there, this time from Green and Nana blasts the resulting rebound way over the bar.

Just as I type though, Miller puts a delightful ball out to the wing, Green dinks a cross over and it hits Peter Bore, but Colgan gratefully claims it just before it crosses the line.

Closest the visitors have come.

26MINS: Both teams are working hard here, but both are guilty of poor delivery in the final third, with Louis Akpro overhitting another cross when he had plenty of time.

Day is looking far more assured at left back is must be said too, after Tuesday nights disappointment.

20MINS:Another good position for Nurse there, but again his cross is deflected into the hands of the keeper, Daggers need to do better when the ball is in such areas.

Arber is having a storming game so far, winning header after header, while Gain is back to us his usual self in the middle too.

Another lovely ball from Miller there, but this time Nurse had strayed just offisde.

The hosts are getting caught playing their offside trap though, Nurse just sprung it to perfect, but his cross was blocked and rebounded off the striker for a corner.

He beat it again a second ago, but slipped and the ball ran out, so positive signs there.

15MINS: Big let off for Daggers there, free kick in shooting range was woefully hit into the wall by Currie, Green then slipped on the rebound which led to a 2 on 1 attack and Coulson forcing a fine sprawling save from Roberts.

Its been an edgy start from the visitors here, who knows what manager John Still is making of this.

Has to be said that the home team are well on top here, Proudlock has just shot tamely at Roberts and there is a real spring in Grimsby's step at the moment.

Despite Rob Atkinson saying beforehand that Daggers are a side that ten to thump it, his team-mates are showing themselves adept at the same tactic too, to the annoyance of the home croud.

5MINS: Gain was caught in possession there and Leary fired well wide, while Coulson was left in acres of space on the left of Daggers box, but his ball into the box was wayward and no Mariner could capitalise.

2MINS: All very rushed by both sides in the opening few minutes, as is to be expected.

Miller just played a stunning pass out to Currie on the edge of the box, but his shot was charged down.

Another little stat is that Grimsby havent scored for four games before today - we're underway now!

Teams are out now, small band of Daggers travellers to my left, plenty of empty spaces in the home end, but thats not too surprising.

Decent ground though, and with the Mariners new boss Neil Woods still without a win, who knows if that will change today?

Kick off is just 5 minutes away, I don't know about you, but I fancy a Daggers win today.

Any score predictions, send them through to mike.simmonds@archant.co.uk

A note about the press box though, its not big enough to extend laptop screens out fully, meaning you have to hunch right up to actually see what your typing, which isnt irritating at all...

TEAM NEWS

The teamsheets have been handed out now and Daggers are unchanged from the side that were hammered 5-2 at Aldershot Town on Tuesday night.

That means the likes of Jamie Day and Nana Ofori-Twumasi all get another chance to impress, while Grimsby have the likes of Adam Proudlock in their line-up.

Daggers: Tony Roberts, Nana Ofori-Twumasi, Jamie Day, Mark Arber, Will Antwi, Danny Green, Adam Miller, Peter Gain, Darren Currie, Jon Nurse, Paul Benson.

Subs: Chris Lewington, Scott Doe, Steven Demetriou, Abu Ogogo, Graeme Montgomery, Danny Spiller.

Grimsby: Nick Colgan, Peter Bore, Oliver Lancashire, Rob Atkinson, Damien McCrory, Nicky Featherstone, Michael Leary, Peter Sweeney, Michael Coulson, Jean Louis Akpro, Adam Proudlock.

Subs: Leigh Overton, Barry Conlon, Jamie Clarke, Paul Linwood, Danny North, Mark Hudson, Ben Wright.

All of the Daggers are out now - and it looks like the same squad as Aldershot, although Doe is available now, but there is still no Josh Scott or Stuart Thurgood - and they are two big players for the visitors to be without.

2PM: Hello and welcome to Blundell Park for todays League Two clash between Grimsby and Daggers.

Apparently, the team will be taken by Terry Harris and Wayne Burnett as John Still is under the weather, so they will be hoping to send back three points as the perfect tonic.

No team news has reached us yet, but I can tell you Darren Currie, Graeme Montgomery, Danny Green, Scott Doe and Steve Demetriou are all warming up in earnest right now.
