Archant

Two hamsters were cruelly abandoned in the blazing sunshine outside Becontree Heath Leisure centre in Dagenham.

The little creatures were left in their cages on July 5 and may have died were it not for an animal loving passer-by rescuing them.

According to Hornchurch Animal Rescue centre, who are now looking after the pair, a number of people had previously gone up to the cages but then walked away.

A spokesperson urged anyone who spots abandoned pets to call alert the council or a rescue centre. The Hornchurch centre can be contacted on 07523180744.
