DAGGERS fans could have a great new stand to look forward to at their Victoria Road ground now the club have beaten the drop.

Plans are underway to redevelop the away end of the stadium to provide extra seats and a covered terrace.

But funds for the project, which will come mainly from the Football Foundation charity, were dependant on the club keeping their football league status.

Now, following their great fightback to come from two behind to win at Darlington on Saturday, the future is looking bright..

Whatever happens against Mansfield Town this weekend, doesn't matter, Daggers will be in League Two again next season.

The capacity at newly-named The London Borough of Barking and Dagenham Stadium, is 6,078, and it is expected to be packed to the rafters with red scarves this Saturday.

Speaking about his plans for the stadium, club managing director, Steve Thompson, said: "We have retained our league status, which I was sure we would, and I will be putting forward proposals over the next two months to redevelop part of Victoria Road with the addition of another stand.

"It's still very much at the drawing board stage, but I am looking at a proposal which would put in the extra seating we need, and cover the terraces at what is currently the away end."

The plans could also include new dressing rooms, physiotherapy facilities, and offices.

Giving a rough estimate, Mr Thompson said the building work could cost something in the region of £1.5 million.

The new stand is expected to feature covered terracing at the front, with seats behind.

The club needs to add at least 1,000 seats within two years to meet Football League regulations.

Dagenham and Redbridge vs Mansfield Town kicks off this Saturday at 3pm. Tickets in advance on (020) 8592 7194 or visit www.daggers.co.uk
