A WOULD-be thief got quite a shock and was left with a rather sore jaw when he was punched in the face by the 70-year-old pensioner he was trying to rob.

The cowardly crook must have thought Alf Howard was an easy target when he spotted him using the Barclays bank machine in Dagenham Heathway.

Alf, 70, was about to check his account balance at Barclays ATM on Sunday June 13, when he was tapped on the shoulder by a man in his 30s.

The man told him the cash point was not working properly and when Alf turned around the thief grabbed his bank card out of his hand.

But Alf made sure this brazen robber did not get far.
