MP Margaret Hodge has called on the Government not to allow private healthcare providers to get out of paying corporation tax.
The Labour MP for Barking and Dagenham has signed an early day motion making the demand following a report by NHS regulator Monitor which opposes the Government’s plan to make private health companies exempt from paying tax.
Mrs Hodge said: “Private companies seeking to make a profit from NHS Services should pay their taxes just like every other company. I welcome the recommendation from Monitor the regulator for the NHS. The Government needs to take heed.”
The motion was put forward by Liberal Democrats MP Tim Farron on February 5 and has so far received 17 signatures.
