The council has set up eye tests specifically for people with learning disabilities.
The learning disabled are 10 times more likely to have a sight problem, but some find the check-ups uncomfortable, confusing or frightening.
So the council has worked with the NHS to set up eye tests delivered by opticians who are trained to deal with learning disabled people.
The opticians taking part are: Care Optics, Farr Avenue, Barking, and Gale Street, Dagenham; Henry Morgan’s, in Heathway, Dagenham; JH Peters, in High Road, Chadwell Heath; and Shiva Opticians, in Becontree Avenue, Dagenham.
