Sainsbury's is trialling a summer holiday multi-sports camp in Barking where children can play and eat a healthy lunch, all for £7.50 a day.
The Active Kids holiday club in partnership with ukactive will keep little ones busy with activities including crash mat rounders, dodge ball, archery and much more between the hours of 9am to 4pm, Monday to Friday.
The supermarket said it launched the programme at Manor Junior School, Sandringham Road, Barking, after research suggested that two-thirds of children will feel lonely or bored during the vacations and miss spending time with people their own age.
The data also suggested that young people will spend more time interacting digitally with friends rather than in person.
Judith Batchelar, director of Sainsbury’s brand said: “We know that planning activities for the long school holiday can be difficult.
“Sainsbury’s Active Kids holiday clubs offer busy programmes that give parents peace of mind that their children are keeping active and safe, whatever the weather, while also giving children the chance to make new friends, try new activities and continue to build up their confidence out of school time.”
Sainsbury’s customers can redeem 200 Nectar points to receive a code to access the booking hub.
Spaces at a holiday club can then be booked for £7.50 per child, per day, which includes a healthy lunch and snacks.
A booking code allows customers to book spaces for up to five children and each child can join a club for up to five days.
Steven Ward, CEO of ukactive, said: “Today’s children are the least active generation ever and the results of this survey make for desperately sad reading.
“We want every child to enjoy their summer holidays in a way that is fun and sociable, and we know that physical activity is crucial for their overall happiness, health and wellbeing.
“Active Kids holiday clubs offer a safe, familiar and fun way to make physical activity part of children’s summer plans again.”
The holiday clubs are aimed at aged 5-15 and sessions will be tailored by age group.
Premier Education, one of the leading holiday club providers in the UK deliver the sessions and all staff are fully accredited.
