The MP for Barking was writing in a newsletter, published by the North East London Pharmaceutical Committee this month, which has been delivered to all 71,840 households in Barking and Dagenham.

The newsletter advises residents to use their local pharmacy for everyday health problems and at the first sign of feeling unwell.

Mrs Hodge said: “Local pharmacies in Barking and Dagenham are often the first point of call for residents when they need information about health problems.

“They possess a wealth of experience and can offer simple yet effective advice.

“By supporting your local pharmacy you will be helping them maintain their important role within the local community.”
