THE BIG Lottery Fund was in the borough this week to speak to voluntary groups about how to apply for funding.

Community clubs and charities were invited by the council to the St George's Centre in Dagenham to meet national lottery representatives.

Barking and Dagenham is under-represented as a borough and the lottery fund wants to remedy the situation.

Dozens of people from different organisations gathered on November 24 to hear talks about how to make their application for funding a winning one.

The council's Voluntary Service (CVS), who promote and support community groups and charities, hosted the day.

One of the CVS team, Graham Downes, said: "The day went really well. Even better than we expected.

"There were loads of organisations from across the borough represented.

"And the talks from the Big Lottery Fund were fantastic and very detailed."
