A MOTION was passed at an Assembly meeting last week congratulating the highways team for the speed and quality of repairs.

Cllr Rocky Gill called for recognition of a job well done as the largest single sweep of road works the borough has ever seen was carried out.

However opposition leader, Cllr Bob Bailey, said he was astounded that repairs had taken so long to come about and likened Barking and Dagenham's roads to those of a third world country.

Executive member for street scene and sustainability, Cllr Val Rush, refuted his comments and said the repairs were very impressive.

She said: "Many residents have showed their appreciation and many others are asking when they can have their repairs.

"There have been some small problems but considering the massive scale of the change we have to agree that this will happen.
