Police arrested three men suspected of entering the UK illegally on Monday (May 18) – after finding them in the back of a lorry in Cook Road.

Officers attended the scene after receiving a call at 8.22am reporting that people were believed to be in the back of a lorry on the A13.

After arriving, they moved the lorry near to Vue Cinema in Cook Road, Dagenham and discovered three men – a 23-year-old Syrian and two Kuwaitis, aged 22 and 35.

Officers arrested the men on suspicion of entering the UK illegaly and alerted the border agency.

The men were sent to be held in immigration detention and the Home Office Immigration Enforcement is investigating.

A spokeswoman said the Home Office was prepared to remove illegal immigrants.

“We work closely with the police to tackle illegal immigration,” she said. “When police arrest suspected illegal immigrants found on lorries we respond quickly.

“Where someone is found to have no legal right to remain in the UK we will take action to remove them.”
