THERE was some engrossing action in the fifth round of Ilford Golf Club's winter fourball competition on Sunday.
With only one round left, the scores are becoming all the more important, with only the best three of the six rounds counting.
This week's winners were father and son combination, Michael and Matthew Pinner, who narrowly missed out on victory in the previous round. The winning score of 46 points eclipsed that of Mark Bishop and John Pilka's 43-point haul, with Paul Richardson and Mick Wheatley finishing third with 42 points.
The final standings will be decided on Sunday before the golf club's summer season starts at the end of the month with the first major competition of the year, the Beharrell Cup.
The February Bogey competition at Ilford Golf Club on Saturday was won by Mick Ryan in Division One, whilst Fred Waidson won the Division Two title. Ryan finished with a score of +3 with Waidson winning with a score of +5.
Following the ladies team's victory over local rivals Wanstead in the same competition, Ilford Golf Club men's team also ran out winners, again against Wanstead, by a score of 31/2-11/2. The team, led by last year's Ilford captain Eric Weeks, consisted of Mick Ryan, Jim Gallagher, Eric Mooney, Will Jackson and Charlie Finn.
