Generous Barking shoppers have donated the equivalent of 5,633 meals to foodbank charities.

Almost two tonnes of food was donated at the Tesco Barking superstore, in Highbridge Road, for people most at need across six days as part of the Tesco Neighbourhood Food Collection.

Foodbank charity The Trussell Trust and food redistribution charity Fareshare will receive the donations of canned, dried and long-life food.

Eni Martin’s Tesco’s London community manager, said: “Our customers have really taken the collection to their hearts and it’s great to see so many generous donations to help support some of the more vulnerable people across London and particularly in Barking itself.”
