SEVERAL Hammers legends joined the family of John Lyall on Sunday, for the ceremony to rename the gates of Upton Park in memory of their former manager, writes STEVE BACON.

John's widow, Yvonne, son Murray and grandchildren were joined by Tony Cottee, Tony Gale, Phil Parkes and Ray Stewart from the Boys of '86 side, along with seventies star Keith Robson and current CEO Scott Duxbury.

A claret and blue strip has been laid into the forecourt with the inscription - "The John Lyall Gates" - which thousands of supporters will see as they make their way into the stadium.

It will stand as a lasting tribute to the much-loved former boss who passed away in April 2006.
