LIGHTNING struck a house in a quiet street roasting electricity lines and smashing a hole in the roof.

The huge blast struck at 3.30pm on Thursday, May 1, hitting a terraced house in Grosvenor Road, Rush Green.

Nobody was hurt during the strike but the event did leave neighbours shocked and scared.

A fire crew from Dagenham was called and they found that the electricity had been burned out and there was a large hole in the roof.

There was no fire or smoke damage and surrounding houses were mostly unaffected.

Another neighbour said: "It was very scary I saw the bolt hit the house and it made me jump out of my skin.
