Stella Manzie has been named as the new chief executive at Barking and Dagenham Council.
Ms Manzie is expected to take up her post in early March. Until that time David Woods will continue as acting chief executive.
She is currently director general for justice and communities with the Scottish Government.
Leader of the Council, Cllr Liam Smith said: “We are delighted that Stella has accepted this post and will help see the council through these difficult times. Her experience over the years was demonstrated during the recruitment process and we know this will be brought to bear in her new position.”
The appointment was made by the full Council at its meeting last night.
