The Government is being taken to court by a client of a leading refugee charity after its ‘go home’ immigration campaign caused outrage last week.
A van with the slogan ‘go home or face arrest’ was driven around Barking and Dagenham as part of a pilot to encourage illegal immigrants to voluntarily leave the UK.
But the Home Office scheme drew huge criticism from groups of all political sides.
Rita Chadha, chief executive of the Refugge and Migrant Forum of East London, which works within the borough, said one of their clients had issued a ‘letter before claim’, which gives the Government notice that it is being taken to court.
The Home Office’s controversial tactics to tackle illegal immigration are to be investigated by the Equality and Human Rights Commission to assess whether unlawful discrimination took place.
