Controversial plans to open an off-licence until 2am have been curtailed after protests by a former Mayor of Barking and Dagenham.
Bob’s Food and Wine in Lodge Avenue, Dagenham, hoped to extend its opening hours from 11pm to the early hours of the morning, but was instead given permission to trade until midnight.
Mayesbrook ward Cllr Dee Hunt had asked that council bosses reject the proposed extension, amid fears the late opening may lead to a surge in anti-social behaviour in Lodge Avenue.
Councillors extended the off-licence opening hours to midnight at a meeting held at Dagenham Civic Centre on October 23.
Cllr Hunt sits on Barking Housing Forum and was the Mayor of Barking and Dagenham in 2007.
