A former pub is set to be transformed into a block of flats and function hall.
The Britannia public house, in Church Road, Barking, could provide seven single-bedroom homes after planning permission was granted by 10 votes to two on Monday night.
The building, which has not been used as a pub since 2009, could also be set for a basement wedding and function room catering for up to 200 people, despite the fact it would provide just 13 car-parking spaces.
Cllr Phil Waker said: βItβs a disaster to waiting to happen.β
A total of 21 conditions were made as part of the development control board agreement including clauses prohibiting the hall from being used as a place of worship or by more than 200 people at once.
