Voters have been casting their votes today on whether they want to change the way MPs are chosen in parliamentary elections or not.
If the majority of voters opt for a Yes vote in today’s referendum, the first past the post system will switch to an Alternative Vote system.
Rather than placing an X next to the preferred candidate, voters would then be able to rank prospective MPs according to preference.
However, if voters return a No vote, the existing winner-takes-all system will remain in place. Polling booths will close at 10pm today.
Results will be announced tomorrow afternoon.
Voters are advised to bring along their poll cards, although voting will be permitted without them.
