The leader of Barking and Dagenham Council and another senior councillor received special recognition at an awards ceremony for local politicians last night.
Darren Rodwell got a Judge’s Special Mention award in the Leader of the Year category, while Maureen Worby also got a Judge’s Special Mention in the Health and Care category.
The judges of the awards, which were organised by thinktank Local Government Information Unit, gave the borough’s councillors special commendation for their work - although neither won their category.
“It’s great to see Barking and Dagenham is finally getting recognition for the change it is seeing,” said Cllr Rodwell, who judges described as a “visionary force.”
Cllr Worby, cabinet member for social care & health integration and chair of health & wellbeing board, said: “It was for all of us in social care and my colleagues in health.”
